Helium Health receives $499,870 grant for antenatal risk assessment

Gates Foundation funding supports digital tools that identify pregnancy risks and connect women to care in Nigeria.

Helium Health received a $499,870 Gates Foundation grant to develop digital tools for assessing pregnancy risks and connecting women to appropriate care in Nigeria. The Grand Challenges award record dates the funding to 14 November 2022.

The project adapts HeliumEMR and HeliumDoc to identify risk levels early and guide differentiated care. Led by Ifeoluwa Olokode, it combines demographic, behavioural and clinical information to help women make earlier care decisions and access financial support.

The programme planned a proof of concept across Lagos, Kano and Akwa Ibom. It builds on Helium Health’s existing healthcare software, using patient engagement and medical records to improve antenatal care.
