Biograil
Denmark · Healthtech
Biograil develops oral capsules designed to deliver biologic medicines through the stomach wall, offering an alternative route for treatments given by injection.
Product
Biograil is a Danish biotechnology company developing BIONDD, an oral drug delivery device for medicines that would otherwise require injection. The preclinical company works on pharmaceutical products that could make biologic treatments easier to take and open up new combinations of active ingredients.
The device sits inside a standard-size capsule. After the capsule dissolves in the stomach, a spring-loaded mechanism attaches the device to the stomach wall and delivers medication into the tissue for distribution through the body. Biograil manufactures the platform using injection moulding; the device is designed to pass through the gastrointestinal tract after delivery.
The company is preparing BIONDD for Phase 1 clinical testing. Its development programme includes non-clinical studies conducted under Good Laboratory Practice and establishing a manufacturing process under Good Manufacturing Practice.
