OptQC raises ¥650m seed round led by Global Brain
The optical quantum-computing developer will advance a commercial machine based on research from the University of Tokyo.
OptQC announced a ¥650 million seed equity round on January 23, 2025. Global Brain led the financing through its Flagship Fund IX, alongside UTokyo IPC’s AOI 1 Fund, Delight Ventures and the Japan Science and Technology Agency.
Advancing optical quantum hardware
The funding was intended to accelerate development of a commercial optical quantum computer. At the time of the announcement, the company was targeting an April 2026 public launch and preparing cloud and on-premises access for research and industrial users.
Founded in September 2024, OptQC builds on optical quantum-technology research from the University of Tokyo. Its development approach uses light to pursue scalable quantum-processing hardware.
