Cambridge Heavy Industries raises $6.2 million seed for compact fusion systems

Azolla Ventures led the financing for the Massachusetts company’s benchtop fusion technology.

Cambridge Heavy Industries has raised a $6.2 million seed round led by Azolla Ventures, with Overlay Capital, Neta Foundation, P3A Ventures, Massachusetts Clean Energy Center and the Rothrock family participating.

The Cambridge, Massachusetts startup develops small laser-driven fusion systems. Its benchtop design lets the team run frequent experiments and feed the results into simulations that refine the technology.

Led by co-founder and CEO Yun Kai, the company plans to pursue tritium production as an early application before scaling towards larger fusion-power systems.
