ZU-UK receives Mindset backing for haptic-audio pain and distress research

Zecora Ura Theatre, operating as ZU-UK, was named as a funded lead in Innovate UK's Mindset announcement on 11 September 2025. Its VIVID project with the University of Greenwich develops a haptic-audio device for research into pain, distress and mental health.

The device combines vibration, warmth and immersive sound for people living with chronic lower back pain. The work draws on ZU-UK's experience in participatory performance, spatial audio and synchronised touch.

UKRI announced more than £3.6 million across 17 projects. The allocation to ZU-UK was not disclosed.
