David Beckham invests £245,735 in Guild Esports
The former footballer backs Guild’s academy-led esports business through a subscription for newly issued shares.
Guild Esports unveiled David Beckham as an investor at its global launch on June 25, 2020. The company’s registration document records his £245,735.29 subscription for 24,573,529 newly issued shares, allotted on June 12. The investment gave Beckham an ownership stake alongside his role promoting the business.
Guild planned to develop young gaming talent through scouting and coaching, adapting the sports academy model for professional esports. Its initial team ambitions included Rocket League, FIFA and Fortnite. Beckham’s share subscription was a capital investment separate from the company’s commercial agreement for his endorsement services.
