Universal Quantum raises £3.6m seed funding
The June 2020 financing backed development of its modular trapped-ion quantum computing approach.
Universal Quantum emerged from stealth in June 2020 with an oversubscribed £3.6 million seed round. Investors included Hoxton Ventures, Village Global, Propagator Ventures, Luminous Ventures, 7percent Ventures and FoundersX Ventures.
The University of Sussex spin-out planned to use the financing to develop practical, large-scale quantum computers. Its approach uses trapped ions, microwave control and links between computing modules.
Founded in 2018 by Winfried Hensinger and Sebastian Weidt, the Brighton-area company was moving from research toward engineering and building its systems.
