Universal Quantum

United Kingdom · Hardware

Modular trapped-ion quantum computers built by connecting small quantum chips.

Product

Universal Quantum develops quantum computers by linking chips containing trapped-ion qubits. Its modular architecture is designed to expand the number of usable qubits by connecting repeatable hardware units, creating a path towards larger systems with error correction.

The University of Sussex spinout develops the chips, interconnects and control systems required for that approach. Founded by Sebastian Weidt and Winfried Hensinger, it works with scientific and government customers, including the German Aerospace Center, and is expanding research and development internationally.
