Yamatane backs Toresyoku in rice-husk cellulose partnership

The investment accompanies a project with JA Shin Miyagi to turn unused agricultural biomass into materials.

Yamatane announced a strategic investment in Toresyoku on April 16, 2025, alongside a biomass partnership with JA Shin Miyagi. It said the investment decision preceded the partnership agreement. The amount was not disclosed.

The project will use Toresyoku’s technology to extract cellulose from rice husks for sale as a material input. Equipment is planned for Kurihara, Miyagi, within JA Shin Miyagi’s operating area.

Yamatane will operate the business, while Toresyoku will handle research, equipment development and maintenance. JA Shin Miyagi will supply agricultural by-products and support testing. The partners aim to reduce rice-husk disposal costs and develop new uses for underused biomass.
