Sparxell raises $5 million pre-Series A
SWEN Blue Ocean 2 led the financing to scale plant-based structural-colour technology.
Sparxell announced a $5 million pre-Series A financing in February 2026, led by SWEN Capital Partners’ Blue Ocean 2 fund. Alpha Star Capital and Cambridge Enterprise Ventures also participated.
The University of Cambridge spinout will use the capital to scale manufacturing, accelerate certifications for textile, cosmetic and automotive applications, and recruit additional staff, including in business development.
Sparxell creates colour by arranging plant-derived cellulose into structures that reflect light. The technology offers brands a way to replace conventional synthetic colourants and mineral-based effects while retaining the performance needed in industrial products. The financing supports its transition from pilot projects towards larger-scale manufacturing and commercial launches.
