Sparxell

United Kingdom · Industrial tech · Climate tech

Sparxell makes plant-based pigments whose microscopic structure creates colour without conventional synthetic dyes.

Product

Sparxell is a University of Cambridge spinout developing structural-colour materials from plant cellulose. It assembles cellulose crystals into microscopic structures that reflect particular wavelengths of light, drawing on the same physical principle behind colours in butterfly wings.

The company supplies colour technology for applications including textiles, cosmetics, packaging and coatings. Its manufacturing programme aims to move from pilot production to tonne-scale output while advancing product certifications and commercial partnerships.
