Ki 13 raises $5m seed to build biomass-electrolysis pilot
The UK cleantech will demonstrate a process that produces green hydrogen and biogenic CO₂ together from agricultural and forestry residues.
Two synthetic-fuel inputs from biomass
Ki 13’s electrochemical process uses non-food lignocellulosic residues such as agricultural straw and forestry waste to produce separate streams of green hydrogen and biogenic carbon dioxide. The company is targeting producers of sustainable aviation fuel, e-methanol and e-methane, which need both feedstocks to make synthetic fuels.
The $5 million seed financing, led by HICO Investment Group and complemented by Innovate UK match funding, will support an industrial pilot plant, engineering hires and technology validation. The pilot is intended to test the process at a larger scale before commercial deployment, where producing both inputs in one system could reduce the energy burden of sourcing them separately.
