Ki 13 is developing a biomass-electrolysis process that produces separate streams of green hydrogen and biogenic carbon dioxide from agricultural, forestry and industrial residues. These feedstocks can be used to make synthetic aviation fuel, e-methanol and e-methane; the company’s industrial pilot is intended to demonstrate a lower-energy, lower-cost source of the molecules those fuels require.
The process uses biomass residues such as agricultural straw, forestry waste and industrial side streams. A catalyst in a mildly heated solution breaks down the biomass into biogenic CO₂ and hydrogen ions; an electrolyser regenerates the catalyst while producing hydrogen using renewable electricity. Ki 13’s approach is designed to generate both feedstocks in one process and avoid relying on purpose-grown biomass.
Potential buyers include producers of sustainable aviation fuel, e-methanol and e-methane, as well as industrial energy and chemical companies. Ki 13 describes its process as lower-energy than separate water electrolysis and direct-air-capture routes, and is developing an industrial pilot in West London to demonstrate the technology at larger scale.
The company is at the pilot-demonstration stage, not yet a commercial-scale producer. Its website says the West London pilot is designed for five tonnes of hydrogen per year and targets TRL 6 in 2027; it also reports signed commercial letters of intent and biomass supply agreements. The $5 million seed financing announced in September 2026 supports construction of an industrial pilot plant and scale-up.
