IPDefine raises JPY500m to acquire dormant corporate patents

Ichigo Asset Management’s investment gives IPDefine capital to buy patents and take on their management and commercialisation.

IPDefine received a JPY500 million investment from Ichigo Asset Management, announced on September 16, to expand its acquisition of dormant patents held by companies.

The capital allows IPDefine to buy patents directly and assume the time, cost and risk of managing and commercialising them. The company will work with corporate intellectual-property and management teams to identify assets that could create value beyond their original organisations.

IPDefine combines proprietary patent and market data with AI analysis and transaction expertise. Ichigo said that approach could help turn underused technology into transactions and commercial opportunities, improving the liquidity of intellectual property.
