6K executed $50 million DOE grant agreement for PlusCAM in 2023

The December 2023 agreement supported battery-material manufacturing; the award was subsequently cancelled.

On December 13, 2023, 6K Energy, a division of 6K, announced execution of a $50 million grant award with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains. The award supported construction of the PlusCAM battery-material production plant in Jackson, Tennessee.

The facility was designed to use 6K’s UniMelt microwave-plasma technology to produce cathode active materials. TechCrunch reported in November 2026 that the grant was subsequently cancelled.
