United Kingdom · Climate tech · Industrial tech

Concretene develops graphene-based concrete admixtures designed to reduce the cement needed in construction mixes. The Manchester business is scaling manufacturing and trials with industrial partners.

An additive for lower-cement concrete

Concretene works with concrete producers and construction partners to incorporate graphene into concrete mixes. The additive is designed to maintain performance while reducing cement use, targeting the embodied carbon of buildings and infrastructure.

From materials research to manufacturing

The technology emerged from work with the University of Manchester’s Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre and Nationwide Engineering. Concretene is expanding admixture production and concrete trials. Its Manchester graphene programme with Levidian aims to use biogas supplied by United Utilities as a local manufacturing feedstock.
