India approves ₹10,000 crore commitment to SME Growth Fund
The proposed fund would provide patient growth equity to Indian SMEs, with most capital directed towards manufacturing businesses.
India’s Union Cabinet has approved a ₹10,000 crore government commitment towards establishing the SME Growth Fund. Announced on October 6, the commitment would back a proposed Alternative Investment Fund that invests directly in small and medium-sized businesses with the potential to expand.
Most of the fund’s capital is intended for manufacturing SMEs, including businesses in industrial clusters in smaller cities. The planned investments would support production capacity, technology adoption, international expansion and strategic acquisitions, giving these companies long-term equity capital to finance growth.
