SiccaNova raises ¥1.25bn Series A for dry-mouth drug candidate
The Tsukuba biotech is preparing clinical development of an oral compound designed to amplify the body’s own M3-receptor signaling.
Amplifying a natural signal in the salivary glands
SiccaNova’s investigational compound XF8302 is a positive allosteric modulator of the muscarinic M3 receptor. Rather than activating the receptor directly, it is designed to strengthen the effect of the body’s acetylcholine, with the aim of promoting salivary secretion in people with dry mouth.
The company is preparing the candidate for clinical development in xerostomia, including dry mouth associated with Sjögren’s syndrome, while completing manufacturing, nonclinical and regulatory work. SiccaNova is also exploring related conditions such as dry eye; XF8302 has not yet been shown to be an effective treatment.
