SCI Semiconductor raises £5m to ramp up production of memory-safe chips
The UK company will scale ICENI microcontrollers that enforce memory compartmentalization in hardware for embedded and critical systems.
Security boundaries built into the chip
SCI Semiconductor’s ICENI microcontrollers use CHERIoT capability hardware to divide code and data into fine-grained compartments. Each software component receives only the permissions it needs, limiting the reach of a memory-safety bug or compromised component across an embedded device.
The £5 million funding will accelerate ICENI production and development of a new chip generation in the UK. SCI says first devices have been fabricated, with more than £2 million in orders and £7.7 million in government contracts, as it moves its memory-safe architecture toward deployments in critical infrastructure, defence and medical systems.
