Salt & Fiber raises €300,000 pre-seed
The Malmö materials startup is developing textile fibres made from beach-cast seagrass.
Salt & Fiber reported a €300,000 pre-seed investment round in May 2026 as it developed pilot production of seagrass-based textile fibres. The company also launched a separate rewards-based crowdfunding campaign with a €45,000 target.
Founded by Annika John, the Malmö startup turns seagrass washed onto beaches into biodegradable fibres and yarns. It aims to supply textile brands with locally sourced materials that can reduce reliance on conventional fibres.
The company reported a supply agreement with a municipality in southern Sweden and participation in the Älmhult x IKEA incubator. Pilot production precedes a planned commercial launch in 2027–2028. The separate crowdfunding campaign offers supporter rewards rather than company shares.
