Bluecore Energy raises $50M seed for floating nuclear power systems
Bluecore mounts small modular reactors on barges so power can be moved to where demand emerges.
A power plant designed to move
Bluecore Energy is developing small modular reactors mounted on floating barges, a design intended to deliver electricity to ports and nearby infrastructure without waiting for a fixed site to be built. Its initial system is designed to generate about 10 megawatts of continuous power using a water-cooled reactor and a closed-loop steam turbine.
The company has engaged the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and U.S. Coast Guard on a compliance framework for offshore deployment. It says ports, data centers and communities have expressed interest in mobile sources of clean electricity and water.
