Blue Water Autonomy raises $50m Series A to build autonomous ships

GV leads the financing as the Boston company prepares its first long-range, full-sized unmanned vessel.

Blue Water Autonomy announced a $50 million Series A on August 26, 2025, led by GV. Existing investors Eclipse, Riot Ventures and Impatient Ventures also participated, bringing total funding to $64 million including its earlier $14 million seed round.

The company plans to use the capital to build and deploy its first long-range, full-sized autonomous ship in 2026. It combines ship design, robotics and autonomy software to develop unmanned vessels for the U.S. Navy.

GV managing partner Dave Munichiello joined the board as part of the financing. Blue Water Autonomy’s approach focuses on ships designed for repeatable production and long missions at sea.
