Biotia raises $9 million in new financing for infectious-disease diagnostics
Its urine test is already available across all 50 US states; additional women’s-health and orthopedic tests remain expansion priorities.
The company described the financing as a new round exceeding its previous Series A, without naming a new series or lead investor. VillageMD co-founders Tim Barry and Clive Fields invested alongside Convergent Ventures, DigitalDx Ventures and other backers. Barry joins the board, while Fields becomes a board observer.
Biotia sequences material from patient samples and uses metagenomic analysis to identify microorganisms that may explain persistent infections. It operates a high-complexity, CLIA-certified laboratory in New York. The resulting diagnostic report gives clinicians information to evaluate alongside the patient’s symptoms and treatment history, addressing cases where routine methods have not produced a useful answer.
What the funding supports
- Scale New York diagnostic laboratory
- Launch additional women’s health diagnostics
- Expand into orthopedic diagnostics
- Pursue reimbursement
