From a urine sample to information a clinician can use

Biotia’s BIOTIA-ID Urine Test uses clinical metagenomics to identify pathogen DNA directly from a urine specimen. It is designed for recurrent or complicated urinary tract infections, including cases where standard culture has not provided answers. The report identifies relevant organisms above clinical thresholds and selected antimicrobial resistance genes, giving clinicians additional information when choosing treatment; the presence of a resistance gene does not by itself establish drug resistance.

Patients can collect a sample at home or in a clinic and send it to Biotia’s New York laboratory. Its telehealth partner Clinova Solutions offers consultations to discuss results and next steps. Biotia says the urine test is available across all 50 US states, while additional women’s health diagnostics and expansion in orthopedics form part of its next growth phase. The wider business also offers pathogen identification and outbreak analysis software for hospitals and laboratories.
