3Sonic secures €1.3m from BII to advance intraoperative ultrasound
The Danish medtech is moving an AI-powered 3D ultrasound system for tumour-margin assessment toward clinical validation and commercialization.
Assessing tumour margins before surgery ends
3Sonic is developing a portable 3D ultrasound system that scans a removed tumour specimen and reconstructs its boundaries in the operating room. Surgeons can inspect the surrounding tissue margin while the procedure is still underway, helping them decide whether more tissue should be removed before closing.
BioInnovation Institute committed an additional €1.3 million to advance the technology toward commercialization. The funding supports product development and clinical validation of a system that combines custom hardware, imaging software and AI-assisted diagnostics; the company reports a functional prototype and clinical proof of concept.
