Sonexos
Switzerland · Industrial tech · Hardware
Sonexos develops plasma-based active noise-control systems for appliance, HVAC and industrial equipment manufacturers.
Active sound absorption
Sonexos develops thin, software-controlled plasma layers that absorb low-frequency noise from fans, compressors and motors. Its Plasmacoustic Metalayer has no moving parts and is designed to address noise where conventional acoustic materials become bulky or restrict airflow.
The technology is licensed from EPFL. Sonexos works with appliance and HVAC manufacturers on paid prototype-integration programmes, with its most advanced projects targeting series production in early 2028, subject to integration and regulatory requirements.
A route into manufacturers’ products
Founded by active-noise-control entrepreneur Mark Donaldson, the Lausanne company plans to supply turnkey panels with integration support as well as components and software for larger OEMs. Its industrial partnerships include electronics development with STMicroelectronics and a manufacturing route through Vandewiele subsidiary Roj.
Sonexos is also developing silencing systems for data-centre cooling fans, where operators need to reduce low-frequency noise without adding resistance to cooling airflow.
