Restate is an open-source runtime that makes application code durable, recovering long-running services and workflows across failures while preserving their progress and state.
Make asynchronous code recoverable
Developers implement services and workflows with familiar request handlers and asynchronous logic; Restate records execution progress so the runtime can retry failed steps and resume long-running work after interruptions. This is useful for agent loops, payment flows, approvals and other tasks that span multiple calls, waits or external systems.
State and communication as runtime primitives
Restate combines durable functions with stateful Virtual Objects, reliable messaging and flow control. Teams can deploy it as a self-hosted runtime or use Restate Cloud, and connect services running in containers or serverless environments. This lets applications keep coordination and recovery logic in the runtime rather than rebuilding retries, queues and state transitions in each service.
