Moving from a prototype toward factory deployment
O-ID is developing humanoid robots for automotive manufacturing and logistics. Its design uses interchangeable joints, limbs and computing units so a factory can replace a worn component on site instead of sending the whole robot away for servicing. The company also describes onboard monitoring that flags component wear before failure, connecting maintenance to the supply of replacement parts. The intended jobs include handling, assembly and logistics tasks in existing workplaces.
The company is still moving its first robot from prototype toward production; deployment on Japanese factory floors is planned. Its Tokyo operating team leads research, manufacturing and deployment, while a Delaware parent handles fundraising and international corporate activity. O-ID has signed a letter of intent with Sumitomo Electric to discuss applying its technology to robot wire harnesses. That agreement concerns potential technical collaboration, rather than an established production deployment.
