A launch-services company developing hybrid-propulsion rockets for suborbital research flights and small-satellite launches to orbit.
HyImpulse builds SR75, a suborbital sounding rocket, and SL1, a small orbital launcher. Both use a hybrid engine that combines paraffin-based solid fuel with liquid oxygen. SR75 has completed an inaugural flight and is used to validate propulsion and launch operations; SL1 is under development to carry customer payloads to low Earth orbit. The company sells launch access to commercial, institutional, research and defense customers.
Research and commercial payload customers can use SR75 for suborbital tests and microgravity missions, while SL1 is designed to deploy small satellites into orbit. HyImpulse’s hybrid architecture is intended to provide a simpler, lower-cost propulsion approach for small-launch operations; its suborbital vehicle has flown, while orbital service is still being prepared.
