HexSeed Technology develops diamond coatings that draw heat away from power semiconductors.

Product

The Scottish company is developing a low-temperature deposition process for finished gallium nitride devices. Its aim is to use diamond’s thermal conductivity without exposing the underlying semiconductor to damaging growth temperatures. Captured carbon dioxide supplies the carbon feedstock.

The technology remains at the laboratory-validation stage. Data-centre power electronics are the first target; the longer-term business model is to license the process to semiconductor manufacturers and packaging companies.
