A uranium-supply technology that uses reusable high-surface-area fibers to adsorb dissolved uranium from seawater for nuclear fuel production.
Fluxnium has developed a high-surface-area adsorbent fiber that passively captures dissolved uranium as seawater moves past it. The company deploys the fibers on offshore longline systems similar to those used in seaweed and mussel farming, then retrieves and processes them to recover uranium for the existing nuclear-fuel supply chain.
After uranium is extracted, the fiber can be processed and redeployed. Fluxnium is developing the platform through further development, pilot testing and scale-up, with the goal of adding a domestic source of uranium without conventional mining and its associated tailings and groundwater concerns.
