A handheld skin-lesion assessment device helps primary-care clinicians evaluate suspicious lesions for cancer risk.
A clinician places the handheld probe on a suspicious lesion; pulses of light and the returning spectral signal let its elastic-scattering spectroscopy system characterize tissue beneath the surface. A validated AI algorithm analyzes those signals and returns an “Investigate Further” or “Monitor” result, with a risk score for lesions flagged for further evaluation.
The FDA-cleared device is intended to support physicians, particularly in primary care, as an adjunct to clinical assessment of possible melanoma, basal-cell carcinoma or squamous-cell carcinoma. It gives a clinician an objective point-of-care input for deciding whether a patient needs further evaluation; it does not replace diagnosis or the clinician’s judgment. The company is scaling commercial access to the device.
