A route from research to customers
The fund plans to invest in around 30 companies, mainly in Northern Europe, while also considering opportunities elsewhere in Europe. Its remit spans agriculture, food, health, aquaculture and biosolutions, with particular attention to Nordic and Baltic research spin-outs.
Initial investments can reach €2m, with substantial reserves for follow-on rounds. That structure gives founders an early investor able to support later development, alongside sector knowledge relevant to turning a scientific proposition into a business.
Public backing for sustainable production
The EIF commitment is supported by InvestEU, including resources for climate and environmental technologies and the blue economy, as well as EIB risk capital. Fund II operates under Article 8 of the EU’s sustainability disclosure framework.
For a founder, the relevant fit is an early-stage technology that solves a concrete food or agricultural business problem. The September announcement strengthens the fund’s fundraising position; its €80m figure remains a target.
