Tangent Robotics raises $4.5m pre-seed round co-led by Fly and Toyota Ventures

Logos Fund and Sparked Ventures join the Columbia University spinout, which combines tactile sensing with robotic motor learning.

The team builds robot fingers that sense contact through light and hands whose joints can move differently from human anatomy. That combination gives its learning system information about how objects respond during manipulation, rather than relying on vision alone.

Its teleoperation setup tracks human fingertips to collect training examples. Toyota Ventures describes this approach as a route toward automating intricate factory work; the investment does not establish Toyota as a commercial customer or imply a broad factory deployment is complete.

What the funding supports

  • Develop fine motor skills for robotic manipulation
  • Deploy systems in manufacturing environments
