Beijing Lier and chairman announce CNY250m investment in Sunrise
The Chinese GPU developer attracted a CNY200m corporate subscription and a planned CNY50m personal investment from Beijing Lier chairman Zhao Wei.
Beijing Lier announced plans to invest CNY200 million in Shanghai Zhenliang, the AI chipmaker now known as Zhejiang Sunrise. Its chairman, Zhao Wei, was to invest a further CNY50 million personally, bringing the announced subscriptions to CNY250 million, or about $34.7 million.
The deal priced the business at CNY1.5 billion before the investment. Beijing Lier and Zhao were expected to hold 11.43% and 2.86%, respectively. The May 13, 2025 disclosure followed board approval on May 9; a later Beijing Lier prospectus dates the corporate subscription to May 14.
Shanghai Zhenliang develops general-purpose GPUs and computing infrastructure for AI training and inference. It had produced two generations of chips and planned larger deliveries during 2025. Beijing Lier said the investment would extend its activities beyond its core high-temperature materials business into the domestic AI chip market.
