R3 Lithium raises $15m Series A for recycled lithium production
The company is scaling a domestic process that turns recycled battery material into lithium carbonate for battery supply chains.
From battery scrap to refined lithium
R3 Lithium processes battery black mass on one site, using calciner-based crystallization and water-based precipitation to recover lithium carbonate. The company says its process takes recycled material from shredding through finished product without primary mining or sending the intermediate material abroad for refining.
Battery-cell and energy-storage manufacturers are the intended buyers, and R3 says it has signed offtake agreements for battery-grade and technical-grade lithium carbonate. The Series A is tied to improving the company’s existing production line as it commercializes recovered lithium as a domestic supply source.
