Ocean secures Series A first close ahead of Japan’s tax-refund shift
Ocean Tax Refund is already live as retailers prepare for Japan’s November move to refund-based tax-free shopping.
Preparing stores for a new tax-free checkout
Japan’s tax-free shopping system is scheduled to move in November 2026 from exempting purchases at checkout to collecting tax first and refunding it when travelers leave the country. That change requires retailers to revise how they handle payments, refund operations and multilingual customer guidance. Ocean says it has launched Ocean Tax Refund for the new process and is working with retailers, payment partners and point-of-sale providers.
