Metagen Therapeutics raises ¥190m in Series B extension first close
The Japanese microbiome therapeutics company is strengthening university partnerships as it advances fecal microbiota transplantation treatments.
Microbiota-based treatments in clinical development
Metagen Therapeutics develops treatments based on fecal microbiota transplantation, which transfers microorganisms from healthy donors to help rebuild a patient’s intestinal microbial community. Its oral FMT drug candidate for ulcerative colitis entered Phase 1/2 trials in Japan and the United States in May 2026.
This first close in the Series B extension brings in university-linked funds associated with Hokkaido and Nagoya universities. The company is also advancing clinical work in cancer and Parkinson’s disease while building a donor and manufacturing supply chain for its programs.
