Matters raises $5m pre-seed for its planned consumer finance platform
Jakob Johansson leads an angel round as founder Per Österström prepares the company’s first product and appoints former Nordnet CEO Lars-Åke Norling as chair.
A team for the launch
Matters announced the financing on 15 October alongside a board appointment: former Nordnet chief executive Lars-Åke Norling joins as chair. The announcement pairs early capital with experience running a regulated consumer-finance business.
The investors are participating as individuals. The round includes former Klarna executive Knut Frängsmyr and Voi co-founder Douglas Stark; their employment histories do not make Klarna or Voi investors in Matters.
Founder Per Österström previously built consumer-loan broker Sambla. Matters is his next venture, with a different proposed commercial model centred on a subscription rather than transaction-related income.
