Kairos Power agrees to up to $100 million in Samsung C&T investment and engineering support
The collaboration is intended to support construction of the Hermes 2 demonstration plant and develop deployment capabilities for Kairos Power’s molten-salt reactor.
Engineering collaboration for a grid-connected demonstration
Kairos Power's KP-FHR design uses TRISO particle fuel and molten fluoride salt coolant. The company's Hermes 2 demonstration plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, is planned as a 50 MWe grid-connected reactor to build experience in engineering, licensing and construction before larger commercial projects. Samsung C&T's proposed support combines direct investment with in-kind engineering services and remains subject to regulatory approvals.
Use of funds
Finance construction of the Hermes 2 demonstration plant
Expand high-temperature reactor manufacturing workforce
Establish engineering framework for scaled commercial deployments
