Intron Health raises $1.6m pre-seed for clinical speech recognition
Microtraction led the July 2024 round to support research, hiring and deployment infrastructure.
The financing
Intron Health raised $1.6m in pre-seed financing, announced in July 2024, with Microtraction leading the round. The company planned to use the capital to hire staff, deepen research and strengthen its cloud and on-premises capabilities.
Helping clinicians document care
The Nigerian company’s speech-to-text software helped healthcare professionals enter medical records and generate reports by speaking. Its technology was designed to recognise African accents, addressing a barrier to using general-purpose transcription tools in local clinical workflows.
At the time of the round, founder Tobi Olatunji described plans for multilingual transcription, beginning with English and Hausa. The company also offered its speech-recognition technology to other electronic medical record providers.
Use of funds
Hire employees and deepen speech-recognition research.
Strengthen cloud-hosted and on-premises capabilities.
