The Osaka company is commercializing AI CAPTAIN, an autonomous-navigation system designed to retrofit working vessels.
Autonomous navigation for existing vessels
AI CAPTAIN combines vessel control, localization, route planning and collision avoidance to support autonomous operation aboard ships. Eight Knot has installed the system on working vessels and is developing its capabilities as modules for marine-equipment makers to integrate into new applications. Its retrofit approach allows operators to add navigation functions without replacing an entire vessel-control setup.
