CMR Surgical agrees approximately $400m strategic investment from Stryker
Stryker’s preferred equity agreement pairs funding with exclusive US sales rights for Versius. Closing remains subject to regulatory approvals and customary conditions.
Capital and a US commercial partner
CMR Surgical announced the agreement on 12 October 2026. Stryker will invest approximately $400 million in preferred equity to support development and global commercialisation of the Versius surgical robotics portfolio. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
Stryker will become the exclusive US sales agent for Versius, while CMR retains responsibility for portfolio development and commercialisation outside the United States. The arrangement gives the Cambridge company access to Stryker’s hospital relationships as it expands its soft-tissue robotics business.
An option for a later acquisition
The investment also gives Stryker an exclusive option to acquire all of CMR Surgical’s outstanding equity in the future, under the agreement’s terms. That option is separate from the announced investment; the release does not announce a completed acquisition.
