Tumbleweed
Austria · Space tech
Tumbleweed provides modular payload containers and orbital missions so laboratories and manufacturers can run research in microgravity.
A route from the laboratory to orbit
Tumbleweed helps research teams and manufacturers conduct experiments in microgravity. Customers prepare a payload in a standardised Pod, validate it in their own laboratory and send it for a mission aboard the company’s Oasis platform.
The Pod supplies power and data connections, while Tumbleweed handles spaceflight integration, certification and mission operations. Different container sizes support different experiment and equipment requirements.
Building a repeatable research service
The Vienna-based company launched its Oasis Alpha demonstration satellite in July 2026, carrying experiments for four customers. Its service is designed for organisations that want space-based research results while keeping their own work focused on the experiment.
A later Oasis Beta mission is intended to add payload return to Earth. That capability would extend the service to experiments whose physical samples need to be recovered and examined after flight. CEO and co-founder Julian Rothenbuchner leads the company.
