Tolan

Tolan develops a voice-first AI companion that remembers conversations and helps people organize everyday life.

Product

Tolan lets people build an ongoing relationship with an AI character they choose and name. Its voice-first app remembers past conversations, helping users work through plans, family responsibilities and personal goals without starting from scratch each time.

Founded in 2023 by Quinten Farmer, Evan Goldschmidt and Ajay Mehta, the San Francisco company previously operated as Portola. It has expanded from conversational journaling into practical assistance, including planning meals, managing projects and helping coordinate family life.

The app earns revenue through subscriptions. Tolan says roughly 250,000 people use it each month; the company is also developing a free tier to make the service more widely accessible.
