Preparing laser chips for customer qualification
PicoJool develops laser chips and optical connectivity products for AI and cloud infrastructure. Its vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers, or VCSELs, turn electrical data into light for short-range links between computing equipment. Its microVCSEL approach places many channels in parallel to increase the total data carried while lowering energy per bit. The intended buyers include data-centre operators and system companies building increasingly dense AI clusters.
The company has begun supplying early chip samples, and is preparing for customer qualification and production with WIN Semiconductor and other gallium-arsenide foundries. Its next product stages include active optical cables and modules placed close to computing chips. PicoJool also says it is working with system companies and hyperscalers to define future optical-link designs. These relationships support development; broader product availability and volume manufacturing are still upcoming.
