LIFESCAPES

Japanese developer of brain-machine interface rehabilitation devices for people with impaired hand movement.

Product

LIFESCAPES develops, manufactures and sells rehabilitation devices that connect brain signals with assisted movement. The Tokyo company grew out of brain-machine interface research at Keio University and focuses on helping people with paralysis after a stroke practise hand movement.

Its hand rehabilitation system uses a headset to measure signals from the scalp. When the system detects an intention to move, a powered hand brace provides movement feedback, alongside electrical stimulation. Clinicians can monitor signal quality and adjust training settings.
