Charter is a licensed insurance brokerage focused on space and defense companies, placing coverage for spacecraft, launch missions and the businesses behind them.
Charter helps space and defense companies obtain insurance for spacecraft and the businesses that build and operate them. Its coverage spans pre-launch assembly and testing, transport, launch, orbit transfer and on-orbit operations, as well as liability for launch vehicles and commercial business policies. The brokerage is designed for risks that standard commercial insurance markets may not readily assess.
Charter launched its nationally licensed brokerage, the Charter Interplanetary Risk Corporation, in 2026. Companies can request tailored coverage for satellites, launch vehicles, payloads, constellations, launch sites and mission-related liabilities, alongside standard business policies such as property, cyber and directors-and-officers cover. Charter says it has served more than 50 companies across the space and defense industrial base. Its September seed funding is intended to expand sales and insurance offerings.
