Certain Energy

United Kingdom · Climate tech

Certain Energy develops hydrogen-manganese flow batteries to help electricity grids and renewable generators store power for periods of low wind and solar output.

Longer storage through larger tanks

The system combines a battery stack with electrolyte tanks. The stack converts electricity into chemical energy and back, while increasing tank capacity extends how long the system can supply power. This separates the duration of storage from the size of the power-conversion equipment.

Certain Energy is developing systems for grid connections, renewable generation sites, commercial facilities and microgrids. It plans to use partners’ production facilities and supplier networks as it moves toward commercial deployment. The company was founded from Imperial College London research and previously operated as RFC Power.
