Daedal Systems raises $4.035m for the instruments fusion developers need to prove progress

OMERS Ventures led the financing for a Toronto company developing plasma diagnostics that reactor teams can buy as a service.

Fusion developers need to know what is happening inside their plasma before they can improve a reactor. Building those measurement systems in-house duplicates work across companies. Daedal Systems is developing a standardized suite, adapted to each machine through service contracts, that measures properties including temperature, density and flow.

The company has signed memoranda of understanding with Stellarex, Proxima Fusion, OpenStar Technologies and Marathon Fusion, and has a research partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Its first customer deployments are still ahead. Independent measurements could also help partners and investors assess technical milestones as reactor programs advance.

What the funding supports

  • Build the first three diagnostic systems
  • Deploy prototypes with pilot customers
  • Industrialize the measurement platform
